Also in 2023, I decided to help a child on a more personal level. In the end of 2023, I took on a Plan International Germany child sponsorship for a girl from Benin in Africa.
Plan International is a leading aid organization that has been campaigning for children's rights and equality for girls worldwide for over 80 years. Every year Plan International supports more than 3,000 projects in around 80 countries to help children and their families in areas such as education, health, child protection and access to water. In 2022 income from donations and funding amounted to around 128 million euros. With around 1,000 employees, who work both in the project countries and at the head office in Hamburg, the organization is committed to sustainable development work and human rights. Plan International attaches great importance to transparency and regularly publishes detailed annual reports about its activities and finances.
Plan International Germany focuses particularly on empowering girls and women, as they continue to face discrimination and disadvantages in many parts of the world. Through targeted measures such as education programs, scholarships, and initiatives for the economic empowerment of women, the organization creates long-term opportunities and supports the development of more equitable societies. A central approach of Plan International is close collaboration with local partners and communities to ensure that projects have a sustainable impact and address the specific needs of the people on the ground. Great importance is also placed on involving children and young people, giving them a voice and actively engaging them in shaping their future.
